Literacy Apps
Writer's HatGet students to think creatively with Writer's Hat. Need a little spark of creativity? This app generates ideas to help students when they just don't know what to write about. It provides elements for a great story: who, what, where, and when. Awesome app for creative writing and imaginitive thinking! The more students write, the better writers they will become. WurdleWurdle is a fun app that is a great vocabulary game. There is a 4x4 grid with ramdom letters. The student must make words by tracing only with letters that are connected to each other. The student will be engaged trying to find words they know. It's kind of like a word-search, but you have more freedom. Shake your electronic device to mix up the letters if you get stuck (it helps to see the letters arrangd differently). Find as many words as you can before time runs out!

Mad LibsMad Libs is an app where students can create funny stories. But, that's not all. Students are practicing parts of speech (i.e. nouns, adjectives, etc.) by filling in the blanks to the story. Fun, creative, and entertaining!

Word BingoThis app has four games in one! The name of the app, "Word Bingo," is one of the games. All four games have to do with learning sight words. The part of this app I wanted to highlight was the Word It Up game (shown on the right). Students will play a tetris-like game. Each block contains a sight word. They have to tap on the word that is said to remove the block. If you tap the wrong one, it stays there permanently. Don't let the blocks reach the top! This is a great app for sight word practice.

Word MagicWord Magic is a app where students must fill in the missing letter(s) of a word. The length of the words can be changed and the difficulty can be changed to more than one missing letter. The adaptability of the game to fit the needs of the student is great. This is a wonderful app to practice spelling.
